The Role of HAP Kinases in Breast Cancer.
Abstract
We have characterized a mammalian signal transduction pathway which is activated by TNF and IL-1, two cytokines which can inhibit the growth of some mammary tumor lines. This pathway uses a subfamily of the ERKs, the stress-activated protein kinases (SAPKs). SAPKs are the dominant kinases responsible for activation of the transactivation function of the transcription factor c-Jun. As such, the SAPKs relay TNF signals to the cell nucleus, thereby regulating gene expression in response to TNF.
