Multi-Dimensional Simulation of ETC Gun Flowfields.
Abstract
Progress made in the development of advanced computational methodology for simulating multi-dimensional processes in ETC guns is described. The CRAFr upwind/implicit Navier-Stokes code has been extended to include complex multiphase capabilities associated with liquid and solid propellant guns. In particular, a gas/bulk liquid equilibrium formulation for liquid propellants and a nonequilibrium Lagrangian fluidized bed formulation for solid propellants has been incorporated along with plasma generation module coupling. Turbulence is simulated using large eddy simulation (LES) methodology. Fundamental studies as well as simulations of liquid and solid propellant ETC gun firings are described.
