Simulation Development of the Unit Cell Concept. Phase 1.

Abstract

The Phase I Health Care Environment Simulation (HCES) effort provides a proof of concept model that can support a high-level Unit Cell Concept configuration of the current health care system's primary elements. The five medical components specified as key elements of the system (Clinic, Primary Care Physician Office, Community Hospital, Regional Medical Center, and Diagnostic Treatment Center) have been distinctly modeled. The model represents the overall health care entities in an integrated system. Five medical conditions composing a total of 13 test cases ar used to exercise the model during Phase I. Analysis of the Unit Cell versus the current health care system is supported by model runs based upon a synthetic population and national statistical data. Phase I analyses support our theories that the Unit Cell Concept will reduce costs, improve overall quality, and ensure accessibility of/to the existing health care system. This will be accomplished primarily as a result of the impact to infrastructure and the application of advanced technology.
