A Methodology for the Economic Assessment of Nondestructive Evaluation Techniques Used in Aircraft Inspection.

Abstract

This report details a methodology for the economic evaluation of emerging nondestructive evaluation (NDE) methods applicable to aircraft inspection. The methodology is based on the economic principle of cost benefit analysis (CBA). CBA measures the future stream of benefits and costs to implement a project (such as investment in a new inspection technique) relative to a scenario in which the project is not implemented. An analysis of the net benefits to both private aircraft operators and society in general is discussed.
