Research Protocol for the Evaluation of Medical Waiver Requirements for the Use of Lisinopril in USAF Aircrew.

Abstract

This is the first annual report on the Lisinopril Study Group recruited under the Research Protocol for the Use of Lisinopril in USAF Aircrew. Our objective was to measure progress toward the goals of determining the degree to which aviators on lisinopril require individual centralized evaluation and the degree to which clinical criteria can be identified for the establishment of medical waiver evaluations by local Right Surgeons. Our analysis consisted of examining the data collection process as implemented through the Research Protocol and examining the data collected to date in terms of trends and requirements relative to the statistical hypotheses set forth in the Protocol. Examination of the data collections process resulted in two measures: changing the Research Protocol to reflect the current USAF G tolerance Training Standard of 7.5 G for 15 seconds in an upright seat and incorporation of a specific data collection form for the Lisinopril Study Group's G Tolerance Protocol. From our data analysis, we conclude that current trends in the waiver rate and the clinical and G tolerance data indicate that continuation of the study is justified and likely to result in definitive conclusions regarding the Research Hypotheses. The study is on schedule in terms of recruitment rate is yielding useful information. No other changes are suggested.
