Shelf Life Determination of an Epoxy Resin by Accelerated Aging.

Abstract

The aging characteristics of GE-1OO, a German manufactured equivalent of Shell's Epon 812 epoxy resin, were determined by an accelerated aging study. The changes induced in the GE-1OO by thermal aging were observed at five elevated temperatures over a period of three months. Analysis of the data permitted a prediction of the changes expected during shelf storage of the resin at 4.4, and at 25 deg C. Test samples of Ablefoam Number 5, prepared from GE-100 resin thermally aged the equivalent of 11.5 years at 4.4 and at 25 deg C, met all requirements. The results indicate that the GE-1OO resin has a shelf-life exceeding 11 years at cold storage and at ambient conditions.
