A Rheological and Optical Properties Investigation of Aliphatic (Nylon-66,P(gamma)BLG) And Aromatic (KEVLAR(R), NOMEX(R) Polyamide Solutions.

Abstract

An experimental study of shear viscosity eta(gamma), principal normal stress difference N1 (gamma), storage modulus G'(omega), dynamic viscosity eta'(omega) and filament elongation to break L( sub B) is reported for solutions of several polyamides; namely, (Nylon-66), poly(gamma-Benzyl -L-Glutamate), (Nomex(R)) and (Kevlar(R). The variation of properties with concentration, aliphatic vs aromatic polymer and solvent type is emphasized. The importance of forming liquid crystalline phases in Kevlar(R)and P(gamma)BLG solutions on such properties is indicated. jg p5
