Los Angeles Harbor Pier 400 Long Wave Probability Analysis Data Summary.

Abstract

This report supplies the data needed to predict the magnitude and distribution of wave energy in the harbors after construction of the Los Angeles Harbor Pier 400 expansion. Prototype wave data have been collected at offshore Platform Edith as well as selected inshore sites within Los Angeles/Long Beach (LA/LB) Harbors since 1984. Harbor resonance studies were conducted in the LA/LB physical model to predict the distribution of wave energy due to the Pier 400 expansion. Using the amplification factors derived from physical model test results and offshore wave spectra, wave energy probability of exceedance tables and plots were constructed for each physical model wave gage location. These wave data are used to document the magnitude of waves occurring in the harbors due to the incident wave climate. The harbor response to incident wave energy affects ship motion and, therefore, the economic use of port facilities.
