Central Imagery Office (CIO),

Abstract

This Directive, pursuant to the authority vested in the Secretary of Defense by Section 113 of Title 10, United States Code, reissues DoD Directive 5105.56 dated May 6, 1992, to update the responsibilities, functions, relationships, and authorities of the Director, CIO, as prescribed herein. It establishes the CIO within the Department of Defense to ensure that United States Government intelligence, mapping, charting and geodesy, and other needs for imagery are met effectively and efficiently, in a manner conducive to national security, and consistent with the authorities and duties of the Secretary of Defense and the Director of Central Intelligence under Title 10, United States Code, the National Security Act of 1947, and Executive Order 12333.
