Abstract
This is the eighth in the series of Annual Reports on Research in Materials at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, issued on behalf of the Institute by the Center for Materials Science and Engineering. The report describes the research conducted at MIT in the field of materials in the academic departments of the Schools of Science and Engineering, the Research Laboratory for Electronics, the National Magnet Laboratory, the Instrumentation Laboratory, and the Lincoln Laboratory. The work in the academic departments and the Research Laboratory of Electronics, Professor H. J. Zimmermann, Director, has been grouped for convenience under the following section headings: Section A - Chemical and Solid State Physics; Section B - Electrical, Magnetic, and Optical Properties of Materials and Application to Devices; Section C - Metallurgy and Materials Science; and Section D - Materials Engineering.
