California Cancer Registry Enhancement for Breast Cancer Research.

Abstract

The purpose of this project is to enhance the value of the California Cancer Registry as a research tool for clinicians and epidemiologists interested in conducting breast cancer research. The objectives of the project are to: (l) classify breast cancers according to all staging schemes currently in use in the United States; (2) increase the amount of treatment data for early stage breast cancers; and (3) link breast cancer case data with other data bases to enhance survival data and collect comorbidity information. After normal start-up delays, the project is catching up to schedule for coding SEER Extent of Disease and reclassifying to the AJCC's TNM and Stage. Follow-back to physicians has been delayed due to the unexpectedly large number of cases that have incomplete treatment data compared with that recommended by the PDQ. Linkage activities are on schedule and additional research collaborations are reported.
