Research Support for The Laboratory for Lightwave Technology.

Abstract

The main thrust of this research continues in the same vein: to design, fabricate, and characterize novel optical fibers of relevance to the general phototonics mission of the Air Force. This includes, but is not limited to, fiber lasers, fiber devices (active and passive), and novel concepts for fiber sensors. Work is in progress on optical fiber sensors for gas detection of fire suppressants, the fabrication of optical planar waveguides, tbe development of a new technique for the measurement of thin films, and a novel high temperature optical fiber sensor.
