Approximation of Electromagnetic Profiles.

Abstract

A numerical scheme for profile inversion is proposed in this report. The numerical scheme utilizes interpolating polynomials as a tool for near real time inversion. In addition, linear transformations are used in the scheme. In general, the scheme uses the impulse response or the complex reflection coefficient from a tested medium as an input. It converts inverse problems formulated in the form of integral, partial differential, or differential equations to sets of algebraic equations. Solutions of these equations are approximations of the electromagnetic profiles of the tested media. The scheme is applied to solve different examples, and results from these solutions are compared with those produced through the applications of other methods and presented in published references or with results generated analytically. Accuracy and efficiency of the proposed scheme are addressed through such comparisons.
