The Brazilian Armed Forces Role in Pursuing National Interests.

Abstract

Brazil is a large country, with a democratic system and a political tradition of an Executive with broad powers. By virtue of the nation's history, the military units are spread throughout the national territory. By law, the Armed Forces (AF) have a double role: national security and participation in domestic governmental activities. This paper displays how the Brazilian AF currently balances the constitutional obligations of security and participation in social projects.
