Symposium on Career Opportunities in Biomedical and Public Health Sciences for Minorities.

Abstract

This report chronicles activities of the Minority Health Professions Foundation's tenth symposium on Career Opportunities in Biomedical and Public Health Sciences. The Symposium was held in Los Angeles, California, April 3-5, 1996, with thirteen hundred thirty-two (1332) minority students in attendance. The Symposium was designed to influence minority students to pursue a career in a biomedical or public health science. Students were treated to plenary speakers and workshop speakers who conducted ninety-seven career workshops. They also were treated to forty-one exhibits. Nineteen student participants presented research posters. All students received 100% fiscal support to attend the Symposium. Preliminary results of evaluation instruments revealed that many students were influenced to pursue a biomedical or public health science.
