Resource Reallocation Methodology for the U.S. Army Center for Health Promotion and Preventive Medicine.

Abstract

The lineage of the U.S. Army Center for Health Promotion and Preventive Medicine (USACHPPM) can be traced back more than 50 years to the Army Industrial Hygiene Laboratory, established at the beginning of World War II. Its mission was to identify and eliminate health hazards at Army-operated industrial plants, arsenals, and depots. Until recently, this organization was nationally and internationally known as the U.S. Army Environmental Hygiene Agency, or AEHA. Its mission had expanded to support the worldwide preventive medicine programs of the Army, DoD, and other federal agencies. Today, it has been redesignated USACHPPM and given significant additional responsibility. Its mission is to provide worldwide operational support for integrating preventive medicine, public health, and health promotion and wellness services into all aspects of the Army. To accomplish these new missions, it has created three new directorates: Health Promotion and Wellness, Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance, and Field Preventive Medicine.
