Hazard Classification of Explosives for Transportation-Nonsolid Explosives (Phase 3).

Abstract

Explosive sensitivities, major field tests, and some accidents in transportation were compiled for selected monopropellants, slurry explosives, and blasting agents. To supplement information in the literature, the projectile impact, card gap, and General Electric input-output sensitivities of certain slurry explosives and blasting agents were measured. It was concluded that the projectile impact, the card gap, and the cap test results all depend on the method of conducting of the test to such an extent that the explosive classification in some cases can be changed from UN 1.1 to 1.3. A scheme for explosive hazard classification based on the new United Nations systems is discussed.
