Ionizing Radiation Safety,

Abstract

This publication briefly describes tile DRES ionizing radiation safety program, functions of the Radiation Safety Officer (Rad SO), user responsibilities and general procedures for working with radioisotopes. For purposes of this document, Ionizing Radiation is defined as electromagnetic radiation (gamma rays or x-rays) or particulate radiation (alpha particles, beta particles and neutrons) capable of producing ions, directly or indirectly, by passage through matter. The subjects of radio frequency and laser radiation are therefore not covered in this document and do not come under the jurisdiction of the Radiation Safety Officer.
