Staged Ram Accelerator Experiments With Unique Projectile Geometries.

Abstract

First experiments using multiple propellant stages and unique projectile geometries in the U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL) ram accelerator are reported. New criteria for comparative analysis of experiments based on both total heat release and heat release rate are introduced and evaluated relative to these experiments. Finally, experimental data indicating that projectile material can influence the desired experiments through burning and heat release are presented.
