Future Vision: A Capabilities-Based Army for Transition into the 21st Century.

Abstract

The Army can and must be prepared to advance and defend our national security interests and objectives. The Army also has great potential to play the major role in providing support to emerging democratic nations as well as other peace enhancing missions, thereby significantly deterring instability. Can it do both? This paper provides a vision that promotes an Army prepared to both deter and provide a positive force for democratization. The ideas and suggestions contained herein reflect the thoughts of a diverse sample of experienced personnel, both those who formerly served and those presently in uniform. Lastly, it remains to the Louisiana Maneuvers process to examine and refine the concepts presented here to ensure this nation fields the best Army as it moves into the 21st century.
