Security and Facsimile.

Abstract

In addition to the secure transmission of the facsimile data, a second area of concern is the authentication of the sender and receiver, i.e., the sender is the true originator of the document and the receiver is the intended recipient of the document. The prior year report addressed the use of cryptosystems, both single/secret key and public key, in providing the secure data transmission and also authentication protocols within Group 3 and Group 4 facsimile. This report provides background information on the crytosystems currently in use, discusses in detail contributions submitted by France Telecom to Study Group 8 regarding facsimile security, discusses in detail contributions submitted by the United Kingdom to Study Group 8 regarding facsimile security, discusses in detail existing Study Group 15 Recommendations which detail confidentiality/security for Audiovisual Services, and summarizes the report and reviews the current ongoing activities with regard to secure facsimile transmissions.
