DIS, DIS++ and the High Level Architecture (DIS, DIS++ en de High Level Architecture)

Abstract

In this report an outline is given about last year's developments of distributed simulation and its standardization for interoperability of simulations. It highlights the functionality of the DIS protocols and Protocol Data Units to be added to the IEEE 1278.1 standard (DIS 2.1: Environmental, Intercom, Mines, Reliable Simulation Management, Entity Management), as well as the evolution of the DIS Workshops and its transition to the High Level Architecture (HLA). Main subject is the High Level Architecture Initiative of the DoD DMS0. This HLA is introduced and explored as a new standard interface which should permit the interoperability of federations of simulations/simulators across different time domains and levels of scenario.
