Ontwikkeling van de F-PVIS ten behoeve van metingen aan de Mega Ampere Pulser (Development of the F-PVIS for Measurements with the Mega Ampere Pulser).

Abstract

This report describes the TPD activities on the Mega Ampere Pulser (MAP) between 1993 and 1995. In this period, a fiber optic Fabry Perot Velocity Interferometer System (F-PVIS) for measuring the flyer velocity in the MAP is built and tested. Herewith investigations and experiments are carried out on the individual components of the F-PVIS. The main part of the investigation involves the fabrication of a transparent slit with a width of 150 micron in the high reflection coating of the Fabry Perot interferometer. From the test results, the measurement range of the F-PVIS is found to be more than 20 km/s and the resolution is better than 100 m/s. Besides of the flyer velocity, PML has also used the F-PVIS for shockwave analysis by measuring the velocity of the boundary between a test material and a PMMA plate. Another application under investigation is the use of a fiber optic sensor probe (in combination with the F-PVIS) for shockwave analysis inside a test material. In the future, the shockwave velocity inside a test material could also be deduced by applying multiple sensor probes.
