Department of the Navy. FY 1998/1999 Biennial Budget Estimates, Justification of Estimates. Reserve Personnel, Marine Corps.

Abstract

The Reserve Personnel, Marine Corps (RPMC) appropriation provides the required funding to assure accomplishment of the Marine Corps Reserve mission to provide trained and qualified units and individuals to be available for active duty in time of war, national emergency, and at such times as national security may require. In addition to employment of SMCR Units, Individual Mobilization Augmentees (IMA) will support key mobilization billets within the active force on, or shortly after, Mobilization Day (M-day). Members of the IRR serve as the prime source of qualified individuals to fill shortfalls in Active and Reserve units. Total force manpower requirements are continually being reviewed so the force structure is consistent with the threat while supporting the national military strategy. The Marine Corps Reserve end strength requirement for FY 1998 and FY 1999 is 42,000.
