Backscatter and Transmission of Aerosol at UV Through Middle IR Wavelengths.
Abstract
A Continuum Surelite 10 Hz Nd:Yag laser system was purchased for these measurements. It included second, third, and fourth harmonic generators. After setup, beam profiles were made, and the apparatus was configured to measure backscatter and extinction of laser radiation due to aerosol and cloud polydispersions. Simultaneous measurements of backscatter and transmission coefficients for obscuring carbon and biological aerosols were investigated in the laboratory at wavelengths of 1064, 532, 355, and 266 nm. Water clouds also were well characterized.
