Rapid 4D MRI of Gad-DTPA Enhancement for Breast Lesion Characterization.

Abstract

The central objectives of this project are technical refinement and clinical implementation of new dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI methods designed to provide full volume coverage of both breasts at good spatial and temporal resolution for detailed quantification of dynamic contrast enhancement properties. This approach involves specialized software for data acquisition (i.e. MRI pulse sequence), image reconstruction, and enhancement curve data reduction of gadolinium-enhanced tissues. The methodology allows dynamic scans through 32 sections of both breasts acquired at 13 second temporal resolution. This is 4-fold faster than the commercially available sequence. Additional post-processing, referred to as 'viewsharing', further reduces temporal sampling to 6.5 seconds. This technique is being applied to study 100 women in whom a breast abnormality detected by mammography, physical exam, or ultrasound is to be biopsied.
