Potential Funding Sources to Implement the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act of 1980.

Abstract

This document is the result of the comprehensive study required by Section 12 of the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act of 1980. There were three purposes for this study: (1) to develop information about the equity and effectiveness of the identified potential funding sources; (2) to obtain comments and information from potentially affected parties; and (3) to provide results for use by the Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in formulating recommendations, as required by the Act. Comments provided in response to the Federal Register announcement of this study and data received relative to this study were reviewed as part of the consultation process leading to development of the final study report. This report was considered by the Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in formulating recommendations for the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works and the House Committee on Merchant Marine and Fisheries. Twenty-five potential revenue sources were selected for preliminary consideration (Table 1).
