Habitat Suitability Index Models: Southern and Gulf Flounders,

Abstract

A review and synthesis of existing information were used to develop habitat models for southern and gulf flounders (Paralichthys lethostigma, p. albigutta). The models are scaled to produce an index of habitat suitability between 0 (unsuitable) and 1.0 (optimally suitable) for southern and gulf flounder habitat in the Gulf of Mexico from Florida to Texas. Habitat suitability indices are designed for use with the habitat evaluation procedures previously developed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Guidelines for application of the models and techniques for measuring model variables are provided.
