Arbo-Onderzoek Kruitkisten (Exposure to the Atmosphere of Gunpowder Cases).

Abstract

During the control of gunpowder cases of the Royal Land-forces some complains of headache were reported. Three different cases were investigated for carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and volatile hydrocarbons. In the gunpowder cases carbon monoxide concentrations were varied between 30 till 450 ppm. The concentrations carbon monoxide were above the TWA value of 25 ppm. A concentration of 200 ppm carbon monoxide during 2 or 3 hours caused serious headache complaints. The nitrogen oxides and volatile hydrocarbons were fare below the TWA value. For the high concentration carbon monoxide it is advisable to open the cases in the outdoor atmosphere or under air sucking system, so that it could during 10 minutes.
