Active Follow-Up of Participants of a Population-Based Specimen Bank (Plasma, DNA, RBC).

Abstract

The objectives of this proposal are to expand the resources of our population-based specimen bank (CLUE IT) by collecting additional information on family history and breast cancer risk factors and to continue plasma stability studies. From May through November 1989, 32,320 blood specimens were collected from residents of Washington County, Maryland and the surrounding tri-state area. Participants donated 20 ml of blood, gave a brief medical history, completed a food frequency questionnaire and provided a nail sample. An active follow-up of the cohort will be instituted to collect and update information on breast cancer risk factors, including an extensive family history. Stability studies of Micronutrients and hormones in years 5 and 9 from the time of initial blood collection will be conducted.
