System Synthesis Environment.

Abstract

This is the Final Technical Report of the SBIR Phase 1 contract awarded by DARPA. The project deals with an Architecture Assessment Environment approach to assist engineers in the performance modeling and analysis of complex software systems. The role of analytical performance modeling in the software design environment is stressed over simulation or measurement. A list of technical objectives and a detailed system for Phase 2 SBIR work is described. An architecture to implement the Hierarchical Performance Modeling (HPM) is proposed. The architecture is comprised of an Object-oriented database; tools to model performance at operational, task, module and system levels; Facilities to construct models at system, task, module and operational levels; and a graphical user interface (GUI) to interface with all the components of the system. A brief account of the industrial consultations that have been planned and in progress is given. Two categories of applications are being investigated: (a) High Performance Computing and (b) Real-Time embedded computing.
