Sedimentation Study of the Mississippi River, Santa Fe Chute, Doolan Chute, Hydraulic Micro Model Investigation.

Abstract

A sedimentation study of the Mississippi River, between River Miles 39.5 and 35, was conducted to study the mechanics of two particular side channels, Sante Fe Chute and Doolan Chute. A hydraulic micro model was used to access a variety of structural design alternatives to develop biological diversity in the side channel. The study found that favorable diversity could be developed by the construction of alternating dikes. The study also focused on the possibility of re-establishing Doolan Chute to the main channel.
