Study of High Temperature Superconductors Using Hydrostatic Pressure and Uniaxial Stress Simultaneously: First True Uniaxial Stress Measurements.

Abstract

We have developed a new apparatus for the simultaneous application of uniaxial stress and hydrostatic pressure for the study of high Tc superconductors and semiconductor lasers. Though we were able to perform measurements on semiconductor lasers an intermittent leak at around 170 K prevented the measurements on high Tc superconductors. Funding cuts which caused the rejection of the renewal proposal prevented to continue to work on the solution of the problem and perform the proposed measurements at liquid nitrogen temperature.
