Contract Management Fixing DOD Payment Problems is Imperative.

Abstract

In response to your request, we reviewed the Department of Defense's (DOD) efforts to improve its contract payment practices. Specifically, we looked at (1) the factors contributing to payment errors and increased costs, (2) DOD'S efforts to improve its payment system, and (3) payment practices of commercial companies that DOD might adopt. This report focuses on the payment of contracts administered by the Defense Contract Management Command (DCMC) and paid by the Defense Finance and Accounting Service's (DFAS) Columbus Center.
