Finite - Element Analysis of Edge Effects in Angle - Ply Composite Laminates.

Abstract

A three dimensional finite element modeling and analysis technique has been developed and used in the evaluation of edge stresses in angle-ply composite laminates. Excellent results have been obtained for the initial application to a four-ply + or - 45 degree laminate in tension, and the method is potentially applicable to holes, notches and other boundaries of arbitrary geometry.
