A CW Laser Master Oscillator for a Scaleable Sodium Guide Star. General Issues.

Abstract

This report results from a contract tasking Claredon Laboratory as follows: The contractor will construct a CW dye laser that functions as a master oscillator. The output of the oscillator will be locked to a relevant sodium line and will be broadened to efficiently excite mesopheric sodium. In order to conduct this oscillator the contractor will design and construct an atomic sodium frequency lock and investigate schemes for line broadening of the output.
