An Instrumentation System for the Rapid Measurement of Run to Detonation Distances.

Abstract

An instrumentation system for the measurement of run to detonation distances in an explosive acceptor has been developed. The system comprises dedicated hardware elements for data acquisition and user friendly, graphical software for the analysis of the measured data. The system has been designed to allow results to be output in a graphical format with fast turnaround times between firings. This report presents a detailed description of the hardware and software components of the instrumentation system and outlines the standard operating procedures in the application of the system to run to detonation measurements. Results from the measurement of run to detonation distances in steel covered, confined and unconfined Composition B which demonstrate the advantages of this system are presented and discussed.
