Laser Generated Elastic Waves for Ultrasonic Evaluation.

Abstract

A summary of work using lasers to generate elastic waves for NDT is presented. Included is work on flaw detection of small holes, simulated cracks and varying film thicknesses of several samples. Calculations on thermal profiles for a number of multilayered configurations is presented. Experiments on beam profiling and photoacoustics in relation to flaw detection are described.
