Proceedings of Joint Meeting of Government Operations Research Users and Producers Held at the National Bureau of Standards, Gaithersburg, Maryland, June 5-6, 1969,

Abstract

Frequently government agencies are unsure as to whom to contact when they want Operations Research/Systems Analysis studies made, and many agencies know very little about what other agencies might be doing in the field of operations research. Many public and private agencies have little knowledge as to which government agencies might derive the most benefit from their kinds of expertise and experience. The Joint Meeting of Government Operations Research Users and Producers was organized to improve the communications among users of operations research within the government, and Producers of operations research in public and private organizations. Government agencies were invited to report on exactly what they expect of their OR producers, what they expect to have done with the results, what the purposes and their uses of systems analysis are, and to give a general profile of their in-house work. Universities were invited to report on their capabilities and their desires and to discuss the OR projects currently in progress on their campuses. This meeting was the second in a planned series of meetings. It had for its purpose the longer range goal of providing more responsive and more adequate studies for improving government agency management and productivity.
