Density of Rhus Michauxii Stems at Fort Pickett Military Reservation, Virginia.

Abstract

Rhus michauxil (Michaux's sumac), a Federally listed endangered species, was discovered at Fort Pickett Military Reservation, VA in 1993. Previous work had determined the locations of R. michauxii colonies and examined the composition and structure of plant communities where R. michauxii occurred. Fort Pickett natural resource managers needed baseline studies to characterize the ecology and population structure of R. michauxii for management purposes. This study was undertaken to determine the R. michauxii density in colonies on Fort Pickett, which has a critical role in maintaining the success of the population. Stem number was chosen as the most practical population
