High Level Design of the Transient Detection Demonstrator: Initial Design,

Abstract

Describes the initial high level Yourdon implementation of the transient detection demonstrator. The transient detection demonstrator simulates a passive sonar receiving sea life and submarine transient signals. The aim of the demonstrator is to aid the sonar operator and to automatically detect these transients within a noisy background. Only when a transient is detected, the demonstrator presents data around the time of detection to the sonar operator. In the current implementation both a sea life transient and a submarine transient will be presented to the sonar operator. In a future development the demonstrator should only return the submarine transients and therefore the demonstrator will have to include classification as part of the detection process. The demonstrator will be used to study different detection and classification algorithms.
