Evaluatie van de locatie Lauwersmeer voor INTERSAT (Evaluation of the Location of INTERSAT at Lauwersmeer).

Abstract

The Directorate Materiel Royal Netherlands Army (DMKL) is in the process of procuring an interim commercial satellite communication system (INTERSAT). After extensive research it has been advised by DMKL to the Army Staff to locate the anchor station of INTERSAT at Lauwersmeer. To obtain even more assurance about the choice for this location, TNO-FEL has been tasked to investigate the frequency interference and radiation aspects at Lauwersmeer. The following aspects have been investigated and are described in this report: possible interference with (inter)national systems, the necessary free space around the antennas (buildings, trees etc.) and the radiation hazard for people in the neighbourhood of the antennas. The main conclusion is that the location at Lauwersmeer appears to be a good choice for a satellite groundstation.
