Ship Navigation Simulation Study, New York Harbor, Arthur Kill and Kill Van Kull/Newark Bay.

Abstract

A ship simulation study was performed for the U.S. Army Engineer District, New York, to establish design guidance for the construction of a deepened and partially widened deep-draft navigation channel in the Arthur Kill, Kill Van Kull, and Newark Bay harbors. The study was performed on the Computer Aided Operations Research Facility operated by Marine Safety International at Kings Point, New York. The U.S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station developed the numerical model working with Tracor Hydronautics, Inc., the contractor who performed the investigation and simulation tests, in analyzing the results and evaluating the design. This report summarizes the results and recommendations of this study.
