Department of Defense: DOD Freedom of Information Act Program.

Abstract

This Regulation is reissued under the authority of DoD Directive 5400.7, "DoD Freedom of Information Act Program' May 13, 1988. It provides guidance on the implementation of the Freedom of Information Act, as amended by the 'Electronic Freedom of Information Act Amendments of 1996.' The changes are indicated by italics. This Regulation applies to the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), the Military Departments the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Combatant Commands, the Inspector General of the Department of Defense (IG, DoD), the Defense Agencies, and the DoD Field Activities (hereafter referred to collectively as 'the DoD Components'). This Regulation is effective immediately; it is mandatory for use by all the DoD Components.
