Eye Fixations of Aircraft Pilots. III. Frequency, Duration, and Sequence Fixations When Flying Air Force Ground-Controlled Approach System (GCA).

Abstract

This report is the third in a series dealing with the measurement of eye movements of pilots during instrument flight. The frequency, duration, and sequence of eye fixations made by forty USAF pilots when flying GCA approaches are summarized. Fixations on the primary instruments vary from 33 per minute on the directional gyro to 3 per minute on the turn and bank indicator.
