Millimeter and Submillimeter Wavelength Studies of Nitric Acid's nu 6, nu 7 and nu 8.

Abstract

Millimeter and submillimeter-wave studies have been performed on the HNO3 molecule by means of a FAst Scan Submillimeter Spectroscopic Technique (FASSST). An ISTOK OB-30 BWO was used to take fast scans of the region 245-370 GHz. Over 500 spectral lines due to rotational transitions have been assigned for the HNO3 or nitric acid in the nu6, nu7, and nu8, vibrational states. A Watson S- and A- reduced Hamiltonian and non-linear least squares fitting procedures were used in the analysis of the measured HNO3 lines. The rotational constants and rms deviations for each vibrational mode are reported.
