Evaluation of Hydraulic Cement-Based Materials for Rapid Repair of Airfield Spalls

Abstract

Three rapid hardening, cement based materials were evaluated for their effectiveness in repairing partial depth concrete pavement spalls. The materials included Five Star(trade name) Highway Patch, Rapid Set(trade name) Concrete, and Master Builders Set-45(trade name). The evaluations included both laboratory and field testing. Recommendations are provided for material selection for future projects. These recommendations are dependent on placement temperature and allowable curing duration, prior to opening the repaired area to traffic. Recommendations are also provided for test methods to be included in similar future evaluations of cementitious spall repair materials.
