Role of Bone Sialoproteins in Osseous Metastasis of Breast Cancer
Abstract
The ability of certain human breast cancer cells (HBC) to metastasize to bone may be related to cellular expression of the small acidic sialoproteins osteopontin (OPN) and bone sialoprotein (BSP). Expression of these proteins may promote primary tumor cell invasion, and/or the development of bone metastases. The purpose of this study is to compare BSP and OPN expression in HBC to bone metastatic potential and to examine potential breast cancer cell responses to BSP.
