Co on Stepped Cu(1O0) Surfaces: A Comparison of Experimental Data with Monte Carlo Growth Simulations

Abstract

Co/Cu( 100) has become an important system in the study of thin film magnetism. We have performed a study of the growth and magnetic properties of Co/Cu(100) at room temperature in an attempt to understand how morphology and defects affect film growth and magnetic properties. We described two growth modes: island growth and exchange mediated growth, and reported a continuum of combinations of these two modes in different films.
