Affordable Optoelectronic Module Technology

Abstract

Blue-green laser diodes fabricated from II-VI compound semiconductors are developed for optical data storage applications. These lasers operate at wavelengths between 460 and 540nm. Both sulfur-based and beryllium-based alloys are demonstrated. Dramatic improvements in material quality have led to significant improvements in device performance and reliability.
